Anthrax is form of blood poisoning in cattle, sheep and horses that is normally fatal, it can upon rare occasions be passed to vets or butchers disposing of infected carcasses or to those handling infected animal hides, wool or bone meal. The initial lesion is usually on the hand –a painful swollen boil with a black crust and surrounding redness. If untreated, blood poisoning (septicemia) my result. It can be penicillin, and a vaccine exists for those in high risk occupations.
